Rules

We are focussing on streamlining our school rules to ensure that there is a consistent message across the school for our learners. The rules at Lorne are;

  • Ready
  • Respectful
  • Safe

The rules are easy to remember and and contribute to the ethos of the school. Children across the school have been discussing what it means to be Ready, Respectful and Safe in and around school.

Staffing

Miss Haig and Miss Moorehead have joined us this school session and are enjoying teaching Primary 2H and Primary 1M. Michelle Joyce and Emma Ross join us this session as Pupil Support Assistants. We are delighted to have them as part of the staff team and the Lorne community.

Meet the Teacher (P2-7)

We are holding a Meet the Teacher event on Thursday 29th August from 6-7.25pm for families of children in Primary 2-7. Letters are being shared that outline the details of this. We look forward to welcoming families into Lorne to meet class teachers, hear about what children will be experiencing at Lorne of the school session and the developments that have been identified to progress over the session.

MAD About Countries

This year we have started with a MAD (Music, Art and Dance) project – Lorne is MAD About Countries. Please do ask your child what country they are learning about.

There will be a sharing learning on Friday 30th August. More information to follow.

Internal Decoration Works

We are absolutely thrilled with the internal works that were completed over the summer break. The Learning Hub, Nursery and Primary 1-3 classrooms have all been painted, the flooring has been replaced, electrical works completed and lighting replaced. In addition to this, there were electrical works completed across the whole school and lighting replaced across the whole school.

We look forward to the Primary 4-7 classrooms being decorated. This work is due to start in the October break.

Playground Tidy Up – Help Required!

We had a group of parents and children weed the front playground last Tuesday (13th August). What a difference they made, huge thanks to them.

The back playground is next on the list. A group of parents and children will be weeding the back playground on Friday 23rd August at the end of the school day. If you are free to join them, we would appreciate the support.

Parent Council

The first Parent Council Meeting will be on Monday 2nd September at 6.30pm in the Primary 7 classroom. The Parent Council organise school events, support the school with fundraising and explore school improvement with staff. Your help is greatly appreciated.

The Parent Council meetings are child friendly, children can be brought along and watch a movie in a classroom. We look forward to seeing you there!

School Uniform

Having pride in being a Lorne learner is an important part of our school and it is great to see so many of our children in their school uniforms. All children should wear school uniform Monday to Friday.

The Lorne Primary School uniform consists of

  • Primary 1 to Primary 6 – grey/black trousers or skirts and red jumpers or cardigans
  • Primary 7 – grey/black trousers or skirts and black jumpers or cardigans

Jumpers, cardigans, fleeces, white polo t-shirts all with the Lorne Primary School badge and house gym t-shirts can all be purchased online at;

KIC Annual Forms

A reminder to return your child’s KIC Annual form to school as soon as possible. We need a copy of this for your child to be able to go out of school on an excursion. If you need a KIC Annual form, please do come to the school office.

Twitter

Lorne Primary School is on Twitter. We can be found @LorneSchool. On Twitter you can find out about exciting things that are happening in school, we are also trying to ensure that important dates and events are shared too.

Attendance/Lateness

We are closely monitoring attendance and lateness and will do this over the session. A reminder that if your child is late to school, please sign them into school at the front entrance. If your child is not going to be in school please can you contact the school office to let us know. This will be passed on to the class teacher.

Parent Pay

We are absolutely thrilled with the number of families that are now using ParentPay. Meals should be booked and milk ordered via ParentPay. Please come to school if you would like further assistance with this.

Letters will be shared and trips organised via ParentPay, please look out for information being shared via ParentPay.

Snacks

We are a Health Promoting School and, as such, we would appreciate the support of families in trying to provide healthy snacks for children at break times. We would also ask that you do not send children to school with energy drinks. The children should bring water bottles. These can be refilled in school when necessary.

May Holiday/VE Day 2020

This will affect the school session dates for 2019/20, Monday 4th May will become the in-service day and the Bank Holiday will be on Friday 8th May to coincide with the 75th anniversary of VE Day.
